1. Commitment
SA Verified News aims to provide a public website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We treat accessibility as an ongoing practice in design, engineering, and content production, not a one-time checklist.
2. Standards we aim for
We design and develop toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA success criteria, and we consider applicable requirements under South African equality and disability frameworks. Full conformance across every page and third-party embed cannot be guaranteed at all times; we prioritise core reading paths (home, article pages, navigation, legal pages, and key interactive features).
3. Measures we take
- Semantic HTML structure, labelled form controls, and visible focus states;
- Colour contrast aligned with our design tokens for text and interactive elements in light and dark themes;
- Keyboard operability for primary navigation and major interactive controls;
- Alternative text for meaningful images where editors supply it; decorative images marked appropriately;
- Skip link to main content on page templates;
- Respect for reduced-motion preferences where animations are used; and
- Captions or transcripts for Watch & Listen media where available (we continue to expand media accessibility).
4. Known limitations
Some content may present barriers, including older archived material, third-party embeds (social posts, maps, external players), complex data tables, and user-submitted documents. Live or rapidly updated coverage may temporarily lack full alternative text or captions.
5. Feedback and assistance
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please tell us:
- Email: accessibility@saverifiednews.co.za
- The page URL and a description of the problem;
- Your browser, device, and any assistive technology used; and
- What you were trying to do.
We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within five business days and to provide a substantive response or interim workaround as soon as reasonably possible. If you need content in an alternative format, say so in your request.
6. Formal complaints
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to legal@saverifiednews.co.za or pursue remedies available under applicable South African law and equality bodies.
7. Review
This Statement is reviewed when we make material changes to the Service and at least annually. Last updated date appears at the top of this page.
