1. Ownership of our content
Unless otherwise stated, all content on the Service, including text, photographs, graphics, logos, video, audio, software, and the selection and arrangement of materials, is owned by SA Verified News or its licensors and is protected by the Copyright Act 98 of 1978 (as amended), trade mark law, and international treaties.
“SA Verified News” and related marks and trade dress are unregistered or registered trade identifiers of SA Verified News. You may not use our marks in a way that confuses the public or implies endorsement without written permission.
2. What you may do
Without additional licence, you may:
- access and read content for personal, non-commercial use;
- share links to our articles on social media or websites, with clear attribution to SA Verified News and without framing that misleads users about the source;
- make fair dealing uses permitted by South African copyright law (for example criticism, review, or reporting current events, subject to statutory conditions including sufficient acknowledgement where required); and
- quote short excerpts with proper attribution for non-commercial commentary consistent with fair dealing and these Terms.
3. What you may not do without a licence
- reproduce, translate, or distribute full articles or substantial parts for commercial purposes;
- bulk-download, scrape, or build competing archives from our content;
- train machine-learning models on our content by systematic scraping, unless a separate licence or applicable statutory exception clearly permits it;
- remove rights-management information, watermarks, or attribution; or
- rebroadcast Watch & Listen video or audio, in whole or in part, on other platforms for commercial gain.

4. Third-party content
Some materials (images, embeds, data visualisations) may be licensed from third parties or used under statutory exceptions. Those materials remain subject to their owners’ rights. If you believe third-party material appears on our Service without authorisation, use the notice procedure below.
5. Copyright infringement notice procedure
If you are a rights holder (or authorised agent) and believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, send a notice to copyright@saverifiednews.co.za including all of the following:
- your full name, organisation (if any), postal address, telephone, and email;
- identification of the copyright work claimed to be infringed (or a representative list if multiple works);
- the exact URL(s) of the allegedly infringing material on our Service;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law;
- a statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury (or equivalent solemn declaration) that you are the owner or authorised to act; and
- your physical or electronic signature.
On receipt of a complete notice, we will act expeditiously as appropriate, which may include removing or disabling access to the material, contacting the uploader/editor, and preserving records. We may reject incomplete notices.
If material was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice with corresponding detail. We may restore material where consistent with law and editorial judgment.
6. User submissions
By submitting content to us, you warrant that you have all rights needed to grant the licence described in our Terms of Use, and that the content does not infringe third-party IP. You remain responsible for your submissions.
