1. Requests you may make
Subject to POPIA, PAIA and applicable journalistic protections, you may:
- ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access;
- request correction or deletion of inaccurate, outdated, excessive or unlawfully obtained information;
- object to processing on permitted grounds;
- withdraw consent where consent is the processing basis; or
- raise a security, privacy or direct-marketing complaint.
2. Submit a request
Email privacy@saverifiednews.co.za with the subject “POPIA request”. State your name, the right you wish to exercise, the records or processing concerned, and your preferred response channel. You may use the Regulator’s prescribed POPIA forms. Do not send identity documents until we request them through an appropriate channel.
3. Identity and authorised representatives
We verify identity proportionately before disclosing or changing records. We may request limited supporting information, redact unnecessary numbers, and delete verification copies when the request closes. Representatives must provide written authority and proof of their identity.
4. What happens next
- We acknowledge the request and assign it to the Information Officer.
- We clarify scope and verify identity where necessary.
- We search relevant systems and consult affected editorial or legal staff.
- We respond within the period required by law, or explain a lawful delay or refusal.
- Approved correction or deletion is propagated to active systems and scheduled for backups where technically feasible.
5. Journalism, sources and third-party rights
A request does not automatically require deletion of accurate published journalism or disclosure of confidential sources. Access may be limited where necessary to protect source confidentiality, another person’s rights, legal privilege, an investigation, public-interest journalism or another lawful ground. We consider correction, annotation, de-indexing or limited access where those measures appropriately address the concern.
6. Fees
We do not charge merely to confirm whether we hold your personal information. Prescribed PAIA fees may apply to copies, search or preparation; we give written notice before incurring a charge.
7. Complaints
